About the Alameda Mini Maker Faire

The Alameda Mini Maker Faire was born out of a desire to celebrate and support Alameda’s growing maker community. At this family-friendly event, makers, DIY enthusiasts, businesses, artists and crafters will showcase their work. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience interactive exhibits, meet other like-minded individuals, and be inspired by the creativity and innovation of the maker community in Alameda and beyond.

This event is brought to you by the City of Alameda, the Downtown Alameda Business Association, and the West Alameda Business Association. The event is co-produced by Idea Builder Labs.

I heard the company behind the San Mateo Maker Faire is shutting down.  Is the Alameda Mini Maker Faire still happening?

Yes!  The Alameda Mini Maker Faire is still on. While we operate under a license from Maker Media, like all Mini Maker Faires we are an independently-run and financed event.  Join us on August 11 to help keep the Bay Area maker spirit thriving!

What is a Maker Faire?

Maker Faire originated in 2006 in the San Francisco Bay Area as a project of the editors of Make: magazine.  It has since grown into a significant worldwide network of both flagship and independently-produced events.  Read more on Maker Faire history, the Maker Movement, as well as how to start a Maker Faire or a School Maker Faire where you live.

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2016 celebrated its eleventh annual show with some 1200+ makers and 150,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in five years to 900+ makers and 90,000 attendees. Forty other larger scale Maker Faires occur in cities around the world—Detroit, Atlanta, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Shenzhen to name a few— and over 150 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the world.
